Cottesloe Golf Club have moved clear atop the Division One Pennant ladder after defeating Royal Fremantle Golf Club in a tightly fought contest at Royal Perth Golf Club on Sunday.
RFGC were missing Hayden Hopewell and Zane Lewis who are competing in Queensland on representative duties. However, the club still made a bright start to the contest winning two of the first three matches.
The Patterson family turned the tables in favour of Cottesloe with Paul Patterson and his son, Jack both winning their respective matches.
Cottesloe’s Michael Hanrahan-Smith then ensured victory for Cottesloe by defeating Patrick Sevilla 4&2.
Mount Lawley Golf Club’s disappointing title defence continued after they lost a close contest to Gosnells Golf Club.
Mount Lawley was without young star Jordan Jung. This could have proved to be the pivotal difference between the two sides.
Apart from Joe Buttress’ (MLGC) 5&4 win over Cliff Botha (GGC) all other matches in this contest went right down to the wire.
Gosnells’ Josiah Gilbert and Michael Laws both needed extra holes to win their respective matches. Gosnells came away with a 4-3 victory keeping their chances of claiming the 2019 Pennant alive.
Despite the absence of Josh Greer and Carter Mealing, both away with the State Boys’ Team, Joondalup Country Club cruised to a 6-1 win over Mandurah Country Club.
Lake Karrinyup Country Club didn’t let Royal Perth Golf Club’s home course advantage worry them as they cruised to a dominant 5-1 victory.
Craig Hoare got RPGC off to a good start with a 2&1 victory but LKCC dominated from then on and ran out comfortable winners.
The Division One Pennant table is extremely close at the top of the leaderboard. The final three rounds will see these top-four teams face-off against each other and it will be exciting to see who comes out on top in 2019.
Division Two Pennant
Hartfield Golf Club have kept their perfect winning record alive by recording a dominant 6-1 win over Lakelands Country Club.
Hartfield GC won the first five matches of the contest to ensure victory early on. Matt Nelson was a lone shining light for Lakelands CC winning his match 1UP.
WA Golf Club defeated Nedlands 5-2 to ensure they remain hot on the heels of Hartfield GC.
WAGC star players, Haydn Barron and Shane Feldman had impressive victories of 6&4 and 5&3 respectively.
Melville Glades Golf Club took full advantage of playing on their home course and defeated The Vines Country Club 4-3.
The Vines CC won the first two matches of the contest, but Melville Glades GC responded well to win four of the next five matches.
Bunbury Golf Club made the perfect start in their contest against Rockingham Golf Club by winning the opening five matches.
Rockingham GC was able to salvage to late matches but by this point, the contest was already run and won.
Division Three Pennant
The competition is heating up in Division Three Pennant with Sea View Golf Club and Meadow Springs Country Club both enjoying 4-3 victories to ensure they remain undefeated.
Sea View started slowly in their contest against Kwinana but they rallied late to take an impressive victory on Kwinana’s home course.
Meadow Springs and Pinjarra both won three matches each, but a W/O handed Meadow Springs the victory and a valuable two points.
Sun City Country Club and Wanneroo Golf Club both made the long trip down to Kwinana.
Sun City CC ensured they made the journey worthwhile by recording a well-polished performance that handed them a 5-2 victory.
It is still early in the season for Division Three Pennant teams and with only two points separating the top four teams it is still anyone’s guess as to who could take the title in 2019.
