The Junior pennant season continues to roll on and the first two rounds have seen some stiff competition across all divisions. Round three is upon us and it could be a pivotal round that has a significant impact on the final standings at the end of the year.
Girls’ Div 1
The big battle in the Girls’ Division One competition this weekend will come when Mount Lawley Gold face a tough test against Gosnells who are tied on equal points with Royal Fremantle at the top of the table. A win for Mount Lawley Gold will see them become genuine title contenders whilst a Gosnell’s victory would perfectly set up their title defence. Mount Lawley will enjoy their home course advantage and this could play a part in deciding the outcome of the match.
It will be a battle royale when Royal Fremantle come up against Royal Perth. A win for Royal Freo could see them pull away from the competition which would make them hard to catch. Finally, Lake Karrinyup and Mount Lawley Blue will be keen to secure their first victories of the season when they meet on Sunday.
Girls’ Div 2
Gosnells/Melville will be looking to further cement their spot on top of the leaderboard this weekend. South West stand in their way and will be looking to secure the points to keep them in title contention.
A tight tussle is forecast for the Mount Lawley and Kwinana match. A win for either team will boost their season outlook and keep them in contention whilst dropping points could prove costly. The home course factor will benefit Mount Lawley and could be the edge they need to claim a victory. Lastly, Kwinana play the composite team of KGC, LKCC & RPGC who will be searching for their first points of the year.
Boys’ Div 1
Mount Lawley and Joondalup face-off this Sunday in what should be a tight contest. Both teams remain undefeated on top of the ladder and a victory for either side would see them pull clear of any challengers. Melville Glades play Mandurah and Royal Fremantle are up against Gosnells. All of the action will be taking place out at The Vines in scorching 40-degree heat.
Boys’ Div 2
Melville Glades Golf Club will play host to Division Two pennant action this week. WA Golf Club will be keen for a victory to extend their lead whilst their opponents, Royal Perth will be looking to claim their first points of the 2019 season.
Lake Karrinyup faces a tough test against Cottesloe who will be looking to stay in touch with the top of the leaderboard. Finally, South West/Goldfields will be looking to remain undefeated when they play Lakelands.
Boys’ Div 3
Round Three looks set to be make or break time for teams in Division Three Boys’. Only two points separate first and last place on the ladder and four teams are tied on two points each. A victory this week could see sides separate themselves from the pack and make an early claim for the title.
One match to keep a close eye on will be between top-placed Royal Fremantle and The Vines who sit only one point behind. The Vines will have the home turf advantage that could give them the edge to get over the line.
Boys’ Div 4
Division Four is shaping up as a bit of a two-horse race between Royal Perth and Gosnells. This adds extra intrigue to this week’s match as they battle it out at Melville Glades for bragging rights at the top of the table. Mount Lawley and Kwinana sit 2 points behind the leaders and will be searching for wins this weekend to keep in touch.
