Western Australia claimed second place at the Australian Men’s Senior Amateur after Paul Chappell climbed up the individual leaderboard on the final day at Royal Hobart.
Hartfield Golf Club member Chappell fired a one-over 73, a shot behind Ian McPherson’s lowest round of the day, to finish in third place and six shots behind 58-year-old Victorian Greg Rhodes.
The WA team of Chappell, John Banting, Trevor Hughes and Michael Dunsmore were comfortably second behind Victoria with third-placed New South Wales 15 strokes further back.
Dunsmore also enjoyed a strong final round, shooting a 74, as he finished in a tie for eighth while Banting, who won the senior WA amateur title earlier this year, finished equal 24th.
Rhodes, who first won this title in 2015, carded one birdie and five bogeys in blustery conditions to win by three shots from former champion Michael Barltrop, of Royal Auckland.
